Grow a Garden Beginner Guide

Last checked: 2026-10-28 · PlayCode Hub

Grow a Garden is a calm farming game: plant seeds, help them grow, harvest, sell, and reinvest. The depth comes from mutations, pets, sprinklers and events, all of which this guide introduces in order.

The basic loop

  1. Buy seeds and plant them in your garden plots.
  2. Water them and wait for them to grow. Your garden keeps growing while you are offline, so check back regularly.
  3. Harvest when crops are ready and sell them for Sheckles.
  4. Reinvest in better seeds, more plots and helpful gear.

Start with cheap, reliable crops while you learn the loop. Expensive seeds are tempting, but a failed or slow crop hurts more when you have little cash to spare.

Mutations, weather and sprinklers

Crops can gain mutations from weather and other conditions, and mutated crops are usually worth more. Sprinklers and other garden tools help crops grow and can support mutations, so place them where they cover the crops you care about most. Watch the weather and event notices in the game, because a mutation window is the best time to focus on harvesting and replanting.

Pets and daily quests

Pets can help your garden in different ways, from boosting growth to helping with harvests. Choose pets that match how you play, and do not spend heavily on a pet before you understand what it does. Daily quests give steady rewards and direction, so do them before you spend a session on experiments. Friends can also share valuable crops, which can give a new player an early boost.

Layout and spending

Keep your garden tidy enough that you can reach every plot to water and harvest. Group similar crops together so you can see at a glance what is ready. Spend early Sheckles on seeds and plots before cosmetics. A cosmetic does not earn anything, while a good crop does.

Mistakes new players make

  • Spending all their cash on one expensive seed.
  • Forgetting to check the garden after a long break.
  • Ignoring daily quests and weather events.
  • Buying cosmetics before the garden earns steadily.

Frequently asked questions

Does my garden grow while I am offline?

Yes, your garden continues growing while you are offline, so you keep progressing between sessions.

What are mutations?

Mutations are special states crops can gain from weather and other conditions. Mutated crops are usually worth more when sold.
